Dumfries: The 41 Club recently held their 11th Burns Supper at the Globe Inn. It’s a historic venue that added charm to the evening.
Chairman Alan Price welcomed everyone and introduced the guests. He thanked past chairman Keith for his years of service and looked forward to his own tenure.
Music was a big part of the night. Accordionist Lee McQueen played, and everyone joined in singing ‘Rantin, Rovin Robin’.
Senior member David Banford said grace before the meal. After soup, the haggis was piped in by Scott Sloan. Alan gave a lively Address to the Haggis, and everyone toasted before it was served.
After dinner, guests enjoyed readings of Burns’ poetry, including ‘Tam O’ Shanter’ and ‘Tae a Mouse’. The main speaker, Stephen Hastie, shared interesting stories about Burns, earning applause from the crowd.
The evening wrapped up with a rousing rendition of ‘The Star O’ Rabbie Burns’. Alan thanked everyone for coming and wished them a safe journey home.
To finish, everyone sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’ together, creating a memorable end to the night.
