Kirribilli: Recently, two men were arrested in connection with a shooting that took place last year. It seems they were involved in a failed assassination attempt on a 37-year-old man linked to organized crime.

The incident happened on October 25, 2023, when the victim was ambushed while crossing Upper Pitt St. A person dressed in black fired several shots at him, but he managed to escape with a minor leg injury.

Police quickly got involved and found the man, but he refused medical help. The shooting occurred not far from the Prime Minister’s residence, which raised eyebrows.

After the shooting, a Ford Ranger was found burning in a nearby car park. Witnesses reported seeing two men set it on fire before jumping into an orange Holden Commodore to flee the scene.

That Holden was later discovered burnt out about 27 kilometers away. Police set up crime scenes at all locations, believing they were connected.

The investigation was taken over by the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, known as Strike Force Marlton. They worked hard and arrested three teenagers and a man this week, who were allegedly hired to destroy the getaway vehicles.

One of the arrests was a 35-year-old man caught in Yagoona. He was charged with damaging property by fire. Two 18-year-olds were also arrested, one charged with attempted murder and the other with property destruction.

Another suspect, a 19-year-old believed to be the gunman, was arrested later. All of them have been refused bail and are facing serious charges.
