Salford: A well-respected doctor has been found guilty of sexually abusing two female patients. Dr. Wayne Sefton Davis, a GP, committed these acts during medical exams in the 1990s and 2000s.
He denied any wrongdoing, but after two trials, he was convicted of indecent assault and assault by penetration. Initially, reporting restrictions were in place, so the details couldn’t be shared until now.
During the trial, it was revealed that the victims were from the Orthodox Jewish community, where discussions about sex were limited. They trusted Dr. Davis, thinking he knew best, which made it easier for him to exploit that trust.
One woman shared that she visited him in the 2000s due to pain. She described how he made an inappropriate comment and then did something shocking during the exam. She felt confused and thought it was “bananas.”
Another woman came forward after hearing about the first victim. She recounted a similar experience from the 1990s, where she felt uncomfortable but trusted him. The trauma from those experiences stayed with her for years.
In her statement, the first victim expressed how Dr. Davis’ actions shattered her trust in doctors and affected her faith. She mentioned that her marriage ended because of the emotional pain she endured.
Dr. Davis was sentenced to eight years in prison. The judge emphasized how he abused the trust placed in him. He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The Crown Prosecutor praised the bravery of the women for coming forward and expressed hope that their story would encourage other survivors to seek justice.
