Kingussie: The second pair of lynx has been safely trapped. It all went down on January 10, 2025, around 7:10 AM. The animals were spotted in the Dell of Killiehuntly area and have now been captured.

They’re in the hands of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which is great news. The authorities are still figuring out how these lynx ended up there, especially since another pair was caught the day before.

A police spokesperson mentioned that folks should avoid the area, especially with the current weather. They’re still investigating, with officers and animal experts working together in the woods.

The experts who trapped the lynx said they were first seen on camera traps. The team baited humane traps to lure them in, working closely with Police Scotland and local rangers.

The capture happened around 6:30 PM, not far from where the first pair was caught. The lynx will be taken to Highland Wildlife Park for a check-up before heading to quarantine at Edinburgh Zoo.

Dr. Helen Senn from RZSS expressed relief that the second pair was safely caught and noted they seem to be in good health. It’s been a hectic 48 hours, but the teamwork from everyone involved has been impressive.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority is also pleased with the outcome, praising the collaboration between RZSS, Police Scotland, and local rangers.

Grant Moir, the Chief Executive of the CNPA, emphasized the importance of addressing the illegal release of these animals and urged anyone with information to reach out to the police.
