A high-risk sex offender is back in jail after failing to inform police about his new relationship, violating court orders.
East Kilbride, Scotland, William Melville, Sex Offender, Court
East Kilbride: So, there’s this guy, William Melville, who’s a high-risk sex offender. He just got sent back to jail because he didn’t tell the police he was seeing someone. Not cool, right?
He had a bunch of rules to follow after getting a sexual offences prevention order. One of those rules was to let the police know if he started dating anyone. But, he didn’t do that.
It all came to light when the cops got a noise complaint. They showed up at his flat and found a woman in bed with him. Turns out, they had been dating for about a week after meeting at a bus stop.
Melville, who’s 34, ended up admitting he messed up and got a 16-month sentence for not reporting the relationship. He’s had a rough history, having been jailed before for similar offenses.
The court heard he was already on the radar of the police sex offenders unit. His lawyer said he was worried about telling the woman about his past, but he knew he should have been upfront.
The sheriff wasn’t having any of it, saying Melville’s record is pretty bad and that he’d be spending more time behind bars. His sentence was backdated, so he’s been in jail since his arrest.
