Bristol: This morning, a big HGV caught fire on the M5, and it was quite the scene. It happened after a crash, and let me tell you, it caused a real mess for drivers.
The trouble started around 6 am when the police got the call about the accident. They had to stop all traffic on the northbound side of the motorway. It was a bit of a nightmare for anyone trying to get to work.
Fire crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, and Patchway rushed to the scene. They found the HGV fully ablaze, along with two smaller HGVs and a van involved in the crash. It was a serious situation.
Firefighters worked hard to put out the flames using special hoses. They even had to wear breathing gear to stay safe. They stayed on site to make sure everything was secure before the vehicles could be cleared away.
By 6:45 am, the police confirmed the northbound M5 was closed between Junctions 18A and 17 due to the four-vehicle pile-up. Thankfully, it seems no one was seriously hurt.
Traffic was still a mess even after one lane reopened around 7:20 am, with delays stretching up to 70 minutes. The backup was pretty bad, especially between Cribbs Causeway and Clevedon. While all lanes are now open, the exit slip road at Junction 17 is still closed and will be for a while.
As of 10:45 am, there were still some delays. If you want the latest updates, check out the live blog.
