Hexham Ranks Among Northumberland’s Most Expensive Neighborhoods

The report, put together by Online Marketing Surgery and Cardinal Steels, used data from the Office for National Statistics. They looked at the median house prices for every area in local authorities.
So, guess what? Hexham made the list of the top 10 most expensive neighborhoods in Northumberland, with a median house price of £238,000 as of March 2024. Other pricey spots included Haydon Bridge and Allendale, where prices hit around £295,000.
The report also listed the cheapest neighborhoods, with Ashington Hirst coming in at just £64,250. It’s a stark contrast, right?
Interestingly, Hexham was recently named the happiest place to live in the North East. But a spokesperson from Online Marketing Surgery expressed concern about the rising house prices. They worry it might push locals out of the area, which is a real shame.
William Thornton, who heads up a residential agency in Hexham, found it surprising that Haydon Bridge and Allendale had higher prices than Hexham. He explained that those areas have larger properties, which might explain the price difference.
He also mentioned that people often think house prices in the North are always lower than in the South. But he believes there are pockets in Northumberland that defy that trend.
The upcoming general election and budget have also affected property buying in the area. Many folks were waiting to see what would happen before making any moves.
Mayor Derek Kennedy shared his worries about the sustainability of Hexham. He pointed out that while high house prices show desirability, they can also make it tough for locals to afford homes. He stressed the need for more social and affordable housing in the area.
So, while Hexham is a lovely place to live, the rising prices are definitely a hot topic among residents and officials alike.
