Montreal: So, it looks like Cherry Blossom is getting the boot! Hershey’s Canada is discontinuing this classic candy, and people are feeling all sorts of ways about it. You know, the one with that gooey cherry inside chocolate? Yeah, that one.
These treats have been around since the 1890s, made in Montreal until the 1980s when Hershey’s took over. Everyone knows that bright yellow packaging, right? It’s like a little piece of nostalgia.
People in Montreal shared their thoughts with CBC. One guy, Steven, said he used to love them but now thinks they’re “kind of gooey and stupid.” Ouch! Then there’s Morgan, who tried one for the first time and said, “It’s alright,” but didn’t even finish it. Yikes!
Emilie, on the other hand, has a soft spot for them. She said, “I cannot erase the past,” and admitted she still likes them. It’s a real love-hate thing for many Canadians, especially those who grew up in the ’70s and ’80s.
Jordan, a food marketing professor, mentioned that the candy business is tough these days. With all the new tech, companies are making fancier treats, and consumers want something that surprises them. Cherry Blossom just hasn’t kept up.
He also pointed out that stores might not want to give prime shelf space to a candy that hasn’t changed much. But hey, the cherry-chocolate combo is pretty unique, so maybe someone else will pick up the slack.
CBC News tried to get a comment from Hershey’s Canada but hasn’t heard back yet. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next!
