Thirsk: A tragic incident unfolded when PC Rosie Prior, a dedicated officer, was off duty and trying to help at a crash scene. Sadly, she was struck and killed by a lorry.

Rosie, 45, was near Bagby when the accident happened. She was helping others involved in a previous collision when the heavy goods vehicle hit her and two others.

Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed deep sorrow over her loss, highlighting her commitment to serving the community. Rosie had joined the police force just over two years ago, driven by a desire to help people.

In the earlier crash, a black Ford Focus and a silver Audi were involved. Ryan Welford, 41, was also killed in the incident. He was standing on the verge when the HGV struck.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy who was a passenger in Welford’s car is in serious but stable condition at the hospital. The driver of the HGV, a 65-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released under investigation.

Tim Forber emphasized the need for privacy for the grieving families during this heartbreaking time. Rosie’s family described her as a loving mother and wife, and she will be deeply missed.

Ryan’s family also shared their grief, remembering him as a hardworking and loving individual. This incident has left a profound impact on the community.
