Springfield: So, it looks like gas prices in the Midwest took a little dip last week. They’re now averaging about $2.88 per gallon, which is down from $2.94 the week before. Not a huge drop, but hey, every little bit helps, right?

Interestingly, prices have stayed pretty steady since last month. The U.S. Energy Information Administration noted that gas prices in the region have fluctuated quite a bit over the past year. They hit a low of $2.77 back in January and peaked at $3.77 in August.

To put things in perspective, a year ago, the average price was around $2.80 per gallon, which is actually 3% lower than what we’re seeing now. It’s a bit of a mixed bag.

On a national level, the average gas price is sitting at $3.02, which means the Midwest is about 4.4% cheaper than the rest of the country. Last week, the national average was $3.01, so it’s creeping up a bit.

The EIA tracks prices across a bunch of states in the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and more. So, if you’re filling up in any of those places, you might be feeling a little relief at the pump.

Just a heads up, the USA TODAY Network is sharing localized versions of this story, pulling data from the EIA. If you’ve got any feedback or corrections, they’d love to hear from you!
