Ottawa: A strong low-pressure system is rolling through eastern Ontario and Quebec, bringing warnings of heavy rain, snow, and ice. This weather is expected to stick around until Thursday.
We’re looking at some serious rain, with forecasts predicting 20-30 mm, and even up to 40 mm in some spots. That could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning that the ground is frozen, so any rain or melting snow could really pile up on roads. Plus, as temperatures drop, things are likely to get slippery.
The rain kicked off Tuesday night, and while there was a brief pause Wednesday morning, another wave is on its way. The heaviest rain is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, especially for places like Ottawa, Gatineau, and Montreal.
As the system moves, snow will start to fall in areas like Mont-Laurier and Mont-Tremblant, which could lead to power outages due to the heavy, wet snow.
And don’t forget about the winds! They’re expected to pick up along the St. Lawrence and Eastern Townships, with gusts hitting 50-70 km/h.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will be sunny but cold, possibly the coldest days we’ve seen this season. There’s also a chance of light snow or mixed precipitation on Sunday, but warmer temperatures are expected next week.
