Holmfirth: A mum named Bex Hainsworth is on a special mission. She has stage four breast cancer and wants to keep her memory alive for her daughter, Chloe Mae. To do this, she’s sending pink rubber ducks around the world.

Bex was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. After a mastectomy and chemotherapy, the cancer spread to her lymph nodes and lungs. By 2022, it had reached her spine and brain.

To create lasting memories for Chloe, Bex decided to send out pink rubber ducks. These ducks wear pink ribbons, a symbol of breast cancer awareness. She hopes to spread joy and awareness through this project.

She bought 5,000 ducks and started a Facebook group called “Cmducks.” In just four months, the group has gained 400 members. People can request a duck, take a photo of it, and share its journey.

So far, ducks have traveled to places like Co Durham, Gateshead, and even overseas to Australia and Japan. Bex is amazed by how far the ducks have gone and the lovely comments they receive online.

Chloe loves being part of this project. They enjoy leaving ducks in fun places and seeing kids smile when they find them. Each duck has a tag with their story attached.

Bex’s husband, Ashley, is proud of their efforts. He says the ducks have brought comfort to others facing cancer. They’ve also donated to charities like Candlelighters Trust, which helps children with cancer.

The family has set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for charity. Chloe’s message on the page invites people to find ducks and share their adventures. Ashley even pledges to donate for every photo received.

Pascale Harvie from JustGiving praised Chloe for her amazing fundraising efforts. The family hopes to continue spreading joy and awareness through their duck project.
