Houston: A tough day for the police and their K9 unit. A video surfaced showing officers carrying a wounded police dog named Rocky after he was shot during a shootout. It all went down while they were chasing a suspect in Texas.

Rocky, a Belgian Malinois, was just 18 months old and had only been on the job for six months. He got shot while trying to apprehend a guy named Robert Lee Davis, who was wanted for killing a deputy earlier that day.

When Rocky found Davis hiding, he was shot twice, once in the neck. Sadly, Davis was also shot by the police and didn’t make it. The footage of Rocky being carried away is just heartbreaking.

Officers rushed him to a helicopter for emergency treatment, and thankfully, he’s now in stable condition at the Westbury Animal Hospital. The U.S. Marshals confirmed that Rocky will pull through.

People on social media are really rallying behind Rocky, calling him a hero. One user even said he deserves a steak dinner for his bravery. It’s nice to see the love for these K9s who do so much for us.

Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz spoke about how important these dogs are to the force. They help with everything from sniffing out drugs to saving lives. They’re truly part of the team.

Meanwhile, the community is mourning the loss of Deputy Jesus Vargas, who was killed while trying to serve a warrant. A memorial has been set up for him, and he’s being remembered as a dedicated public servant.

It’s a tough time for everyone involved, but the bravery of both Rocky and Deputy Vargas is being honored and remembered.
