Oldham: A nurse was stabbed at the Royal Oldham Hospital, and it’s just awful. The Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, called it a ‘horrific attack’ and stressed that nurses should work without fear.

Police were called around 11:30 PM, and the nurse, in her 50s, is in critical condition. It’s heartbreaking to hear that her injuries are life-changing.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and thankfully, the police aren’t looking for anyone else. Streeting shared his thoughts on social media, expressing concern for the nurse and her family.

He highlighted how vital nurses are to the NHS and how they deserve to work safely. The chief nursing officer, Heather Caudle, also expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

She mentioned that they’re focused on supporting the nurse and her family during this tough time. The hospital remains open, but it’s clear this has shaken everyone involved.

Local MP Jim McMahon called the attack senseless and wished the nurse a speedy recovery. Detective Sergeant Craig Roters reassured the community that police presence would increase to help with any concerns.

It’s a tough situation, and everyone’s thoughts are with the nurse and her loved ones right now. Let’s hope for her recovery and for some peace in the community.
