Decades of Service Ended by Police Inspector’s Controversial Online Posts
A long-serving police inspector was dismissed after making offensive comments online, raising concerns about professional conduct and public trust.
Merseyside, UK, Ross Meredith, Just Stop Oil, Police Misconduct
He called Just Stop Oil protesters “dog dirt” and made some ableist comments that didn’t sit well with anyone. The misconduct hearing revealed that people were concerned about his posts back in April 2024, and even after being told to clean up his act, he still had some unacceptable stuff up there two months later.
In one post, he went off about how the protests were just making people dislike their cause even more. He even used a derogatory term for people with disabilities, which is just not cool. The Assistant Chief Constable said his comments were offensive and showed a total lack of respect for people with disabilities.
Meredith had a solid career before this, working as a community inspector and even being part of the LGBTQ+ Network in Merseyside Police. But after the hearing, he was dismissed without notice and is now on a barred list, meaning he can’t work in policing for at least five years.
The police are serious about maintaining high standards, both on and off duty. They’ve got a campaign called “Call It Out” to encourage officers to report any bad behavior. It’s all about keeping the public’s trust and making sure everyone feels safe and respected in the community.
