Burnley: A beloved grandfather, Ronald Barker, tragically lost his life after a freak accident in his garden. He was just 85 years old.

On September 12, while using a weed burner to tidy up, his trousers caught fire. Neighbors rushed to help and called for emergency services.

Ronald was quickly taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, but his injuries were severe. Initially, doctors thought he might pull through, but sadly, his condition worsened.

His family shared that he was a vibrant man who loved spending time in his garden, even competing in local fairs. They described him as fiercely independent, especially after losing his wife, Shirley.

Coroner Kate Bisset ruled his death an accident, caused by pneumonia from his burns. It’s a heartbreaking loss for a family who cherished him dearly.
