Former Neath Port Talbot mayor Thomas Noel Crowley passed away after a tragic collision, leaving behind a legacy of service and community dedication

Neath Port Talbot: It’s a sad day for the community after the passing of Thomas Noel Crowley. He was 86 and died in the hospital following a car accident in December 2024.
Crowley was a well-respected figure, having served as a councillor, mayor, and the first leader of Neath Port Talbot Council. He dedicated his life to the area and was honored with a CBE for his community work.
During a council meeting on January 8, members shared heartfelt tributes. Current mayor Matthew Crowley, who is also his son, praised his father’s passion and wisdom in leadership.
Everyone in the chamber stood for a minute of silence to honor Mr. Crowley and other former council members who had passed away. His family described him as a beloved community member and a devoted Catholic.
He spent his entire life in Port Talbot, marrying his wife Anne in 1957. Crowley was a skilled bricklayer and worked in the Steel Works, where he was a deputy manager.
He was known for his wisdom and was always there to lend a hand or offer advice. His community service was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II, who awarded him a CBE.
In addition to his accolades, he was a devoted family man, caring for his grandson Sam, who has autism. Crowley loved playing golf and made many friends at Pyle & Kenfig golf club.
He retired from golf to care for his wife, who has been unwell. Crowley was a proud father and grandfather, always greeting people with a smile and a story to share.
His legacy of love and service will be remembered by all who knew him.
