Harpurhey: So, there’s this 73-year-old guy who hasn’t seen his grandkids in months. Why? He’s totally freaked out about bedbugs, even though he doesn’t have any at home.

He lives in a retirement complex where some flats had a bedbug treatment recently. But it seems like the problem has been hanging around for a couple of years now. One daughter even said her mom got a skin infection from it!

After the news broke about the infestation, another family member shared that her dad is super anxious about bedbugs, even though his place is clear. She said he used to visit often but hasn’t been since November because he’s scared of bringing them home.

She’s noticed he’s really changed, becoming paranoid and avoiding handrails. He’s even spent over £200 on sprays to keep the bugs away. Other relatives are calling for a full fumigation of the whole building.

One relative mentioned that pest control said her mom’s bed was so bad it needed to be thrown out. They’re only treating certain areas, which seems risky since the bugs could just move around.

The council said they understand how stressful this is but don’t think a full fumigation is needed. They claim the infestation is small and contained, and they’re treating the communal areas too.

They appreciate residents reporting the issue, saying it helps them tackle the problem quickly. But with so much fear in the air, it’s hard to see how anyone can feel safe right now.
