The judges, Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar, said that the issues raised were more about what the government should do, not what the court can decide. They made it clear that it’s up to the government to come up with laws to tackle these concerns.
The petitioner, Amit Vyas, who’s a lawyer, pointed out that there have been a lot of irregularities when it comes to selling tickets for big events. He specifically mentioned the Coldplay concert and how tickets were sold on BookMyShow. He claimed that tickets were being flipped on secondary sites for crazy prices right after they sold out on the main site.
Vyas also noted that this kind of thing has happened during other big events, like IPL matches and concerts by stars like Taylor Swift. He argued that fans are getting ripped off because ticket sellers are taking advantage of them.
He even filed a complaint with the police about this last year, and they’re looking into it. Vyas believes that these practices are unfair and violate people’s rights to enjoy public entertainment equally. He pointed out that the Consumer Protection rules should apply here, but without proper regulations, platforms like BookMyShow aren’t following them.
