Manchester: So, Harry Maguire, the Manchester United defender, just got hit with a driving ban. He was caught speeding at 85mph on a 50mph road close to Manchester Airport. Ouch!
This all went down on March 5, 2024, when he was cruising in his fancy £200,000 Range Rover. The speed camera caught him in the act at around 2 PM. Not a great look, right?
He didn’t even show up in court when they handed down the 56-day ban. Plus, he’s got to cough up over £1,000 in fines and costs. That’s gotta sting!
The prosecutor mentioned that Maguire admitted he was driving and had already pleaded guilty to speeding back in October. His lawyer, Gwyn Lewis, apologized for his absence, saying he didn’t mean any disrespect.
Lewis explained that the area where Maguire was caught speeding was pretty quiet, with no pedestrians around. Still, it’s not a good excuse for speeding, right?
Interestingly, Maguire already had three points on his license and had been caught speeding a few times in the last four years. Just three days after this incident, he got caught speeding again in Sheffield. Talk about bad luck!
For that Sheffield incident, he had to pay over £1,200 after being clocked at 68mph in a 60mph zone. His lawyer mentioned that he accepted he was driving too fast and was expecting a ban.
The court did consider his situation, especially since he missed a speeding awareness course because he was out of the country. They decided to go easy on him this time.
Had they given him six penalty points instead of the ban, he could have faced an even longer driving ban. So, it looks like he dodged a bullet there!
