Sheffield: A 27-year-old guy from Harrow, Salah Nahar, is now serving time after police caught him with a whopping 20 kilos of cocaine, a handgun, and £1.2 million in cash. He got a sentence of four years and three months for his involvement in this drug operation.
This all came about after a big investigation by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit. They managed to get 13 members of the gang to plead guilty before the trial even started. The guy who got the longest sentence, Jake Roderick, 24, from Chesterfield, is looking at 16 years for his part in supplying Class A drugs and having a firearm without a license.
While seven other gang members tried to deny their involvement, they were found guilty after a trial at Derby Crown Court. Their sentences ranged from about four to nine years. There are still three more guys, including a 54-year-old from North Finchley, who are waiting to be sentenced for money laundering.
Detective Inspector Tom Bentley, who was in charge of the investigation, said the sentences show just how much harm these criminals cause in our communities. He pointed out that this gang was pretty sophisticated and not afraid to use guns to protect their illegal business.
He hopes these sentences send a strong message to anyone thinking about getting involved in this kind of crime: there’s no safe place for you, and they’ll work hard to bring you to justice.
