Topeka: Pam Evans is a familiar face in the community, known for her dedication to mental health awareness and fundraising. This month, she’s being honored as the ‘Everything Woman’ for her impactful work.

Originally from Kansas, Pam moved here as a toddler when her dad retired from the military. She had a passion for ballet and acrobatics, but her love for horses soon took over.

After pestering her parents long enough, she finally got her first pony. From there, she quickly learned to ride and even competed at a high level, thanks to her parents’ encouragement.

After high school, she had a chance to train horses in Texas but chose to attend the University of Kansas instead, starting as a business major before switching to journalism.

Her first job was in sales and marketing at Heartland Park, where she learned the ropes from a mentor. This experience helped shape her career.

She later worked as a public information officer at the lottery office, where she gave away millions to winners. It was a great opportunity that she cherished.

Wanting to learn more, she took a marketing director role with a local CPA before finding her long-term position at the Department of Commerce.

During her 14 years there, she managed various projects, from events to advertising, promoting Kansas as a great place to live and work.

Eventually, she wanted to do more meaningful work, which led her to the Family Service & Guidance Center (FSGC). She feels fulfilled knowing she helps those struggling with mental health challenges.

Recently, FSGC became a certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, focusing on whole-person care. They’re expanding to meet the growing needs in northeast Kansas.

One of her proudest projects is the new Youth Crisis and Recovery Center, which opened in October 2023, providing specialized care for kids and teens in crisis.

What makes her most proud? Knowing she plays a part in helping people find happiness and improve their lives. It’s all about the positive outcomes for her.

Being recognized as an honoree is humbling for Pam. She encourages others to nominate inspiring women in the community, as it means a lot to them.

Pam describes Topeka as a ‘big, small town’ filled with inspiring people. To learn more about FSGC, visit fsgctopeka.com. If you know a woman who deserves recognition, head to ksnt.com to nominate her. They feature these honorees during 27 News on the last Tuesday of each month.
