Accrington: So, there was this wild incident where a dog walker tried to snatch a woman’s handbag and then went after a girl’s phone just minutes later.
This guy, Paul Couldwell, really thought he could get away with it, but he ended up empty-handed. Now, he’s facing two years behind bars.
It all went down on a Friday morning. Around 7:57 AM, Couldwell was walking his dog on King Street when he sneaked up on a woman and tried to grab her handbag. Luckily, she held on tight while his dog was running around all over the place.
After that failed attempt, he bolted towards Asda, but not before some bystanders helped the woman out. Just a few minutes later, at 8:05 AM, he spotted a girl on Queens Road West, glued to her phone.
He walked past her and then tried to snatch the phone right out of her hand. But the girl was quick on her feet, screamed, and held on tight, which scared him off.
Couldwell, who lives in Church, Accrington, eventually pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and theft. He got sentenced at Preston Crown Court on January 10.
After the court session, Detective Constable Vicky Heys from Lancashire Police said it was shocking how he targeted two victims, including a child, in such a short time. She emphasized that these kinds of crimes won’t be tolerated.
