Hamilton Scammer Relates to Victim After His Own Dad Was Targeted
A young scammer shares his experience after his father fell victim to a similar scheme
Hamilton, Scotland, Scam, Court, Gary Brown
Hamilton: A 21-year-old scammer, Gary Brown, recently faced the court for his role in a social media scam. He admitted to scamming a victim out of £8,500.
Interestingly, Brown’s own dad was also targeted by a similar scam, which he mentioned in court. It seems this experience hit close to home for him.
In June 2022, Brown and some accomplices set up a get-rich-quick scheme online. They convinced someone to share their bank details, leading to the hefty loss.
Brown was caught when he tried to exchange some of the stolen money for euros. His defense lawyer pointed out that this was his first offense and that he was only 19 at the time.
The sheriff decided against a prison sentence, placing Brown under supervision for a year and requiring him to complete 200 hours of community service instead.
It’s a reminder that even young people can make mistakes, but it’s also a chance for them to learn and make better choices in the future.
