Stockport: It’s a tough time for Rick Vere-Hoose, the owner of Transform Hub. His new gym was set to open soon, but a flood on New Year’s Day changed everything.
Rick had invested over £100,000 into this dream project. Unfortunately, the River Tame overflowed, causing chaos. The gym, located in Meadow Mill, was left in ruins.
When the flood hit, it brought about eight feet of water into the gym. Pictures from the scene were shocking, with cars submerged and the building only reachable by boat for a while.
Now that the water is gone, there’s a mess to clean up. Mud covers the floor, and Rick’s family and friends are helping out. He shared, “It’s just terrible. We’ve had to strip it back to bare bones.”
As for the gym equipment, Rick can’t assess the damage until the power is back on. The opening date is now up in the air, which is frustrating for him.
After two decades in the corporate world, Rick was excited to start this new chapter. He said, “It’s been a dream of mine to open a gym for a good couple of years.”
Despite the setback, he remains hopeful. “I’m heartbroken, but it’s just a setback. We’ll get there,” he reassured everyone.
To make matters worse, there’s no running water on site for the cleanup. Rick is reaching out for help, asking anyone with a water supply to pitch in.
More than 400 residents from the upper floors of the mill were evacuated, and they’re still waiting to return home. It’s a challenging situation for everyone involved.
