Wiveliscombe: A growing town near Exmoor National Park is looking at plans for 25 new homes. Summerfield Developments wants to build these at Greenway Farm on North Street.
But not everyone is on board. Many locals have raised concerns about how this will affect services and traffic in the area. The council is set to make a decision by early summer.
The proposed site is on the western side of North Street, close to existing homes. They plan to create a new access road, which should help with traffic flow.
Out of the 25 homes, six are meant to be affordable, which is almost what the council aims for in new developments. A spokesperson for the developers said this project could really benefit Wiveliscombe.
They believe the design will fit well with the local vibe and include open spaces. It’s all about blending in with the beautiful countryside around.
Summerfield is also working on other projects in the area, like the Killams Park estate in Taunton. They’re busy, that’s for sure!
However, locals are worried. One resident pointed out the lack of essential services like a dentist and enough parking. They feel the roads can’t handle more traffic, especially with big trucks.
Another resident echoed these concerns, saying it might be too soon to say there’s a need for more housing, especially with other developments already in the pipeline.
Councillor Dave Mansell, who represents the area, agrees that this site might not be the best choice for new homes. He’s worried about the extra traffic and the impact on the landscape.
The council will decide on these plans soon, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds!
