Adelaide: So, there’s been a bit of a scare at Torrens Lake in the city center. They found high levels of E.coli in the water, which is pretty concerning. Because of this, the lake has been closed off to the public.

On Christmas Day, they put up signs at Possum Park, warning folks to steer clear of the water. E.coli is a bacteria that usually hangs out in our guts, but it’s not something you want to come into contact with.

Deputy Lord Mayor Keiran Snape mentioned that the water quality dropped, likely due to the heat we’ve been having. He stressed the importance of the signs to keep everyone safe.

They’re planning to do more testing on Friday to figure out what to do next, especially with New Year’s Eve coming up. It’s a busy time, and they want to make sure everything is safe.

Interestingly, the Adelaide Park Lands Association pointed out that there haven’t been any updates on how long the lake will be closed. Meanwhile, Popeye River Cruises are still running, but paddle boats are on hold until the water gets better.

A spokesperson for the City of Adelaide said that other areas like Bonython Park Lake and Veale Gardens also had high E.coli levels, so they’re being cautious and keeping those spots closed too.

While E.coli is common in our bodies, it can lead to some nasty symptoms if you come into contact with it. Things like stomach pain, vomiting, and even more serious issues can happen.

NewsWire is trying to get more info from the City of Adelaide, so we’ll keep you posted on any updates.
