Wagga Wagga: A childcare centre in southern NSW has been shut down after some pretty shocking claims. Kids were reportedly eating scraps off the floor, among other serious issues.

The Angel’s Paradise early education centre was closed right after an inspection last September. Officials found it posed an “immediate risk” to the kids’ safety.

According to court documents, CCTV footage showed kids being left unsupervised and even falling down. That’s just not okay!

There were also worries about staff training. At least one worker didn’t have a proper working with children check and lacked formal early childhood education training.

To make matters worse, some staff were caught using their phones when they should have been watching the kids. Talk about a lack of responsibility!

And hygiene? Not great either. Kids were allegedly munching on food scraps off the floor. Yikes!

A parent raised concerns last August after their child came home with an injury that needed medical care. That’s when the investigation kicked off.

The CCTV footage was crucial. It showed a child climbing onto a cupboard and falling while no one was watching. The poor kid looked distressed, crying or even asleep until they were picked up at the end of the day.

The department found the breaches serious enough to shut the centre down immediately. They said it showed a “substantial and ongoing risk” to the kids’ health and safety.

On Monday, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal upheld a six-month suspension for the centre. The owner argued this could lead to a permanent closure due to money issues.

While the owner plans to fight back, the tribunal didn’t buy the claim that the department was overreacting. They said, “There are far too many serious alleged breaches.”

In the end, the tribunal decided that the best way to protect the kids was to keep the centre closed for now.
