Grimsby Top Town Market to Close Soon and Temporarily Relocate
Grimsby Top Town Market will close in February for redevelopment, relocating temporarily within the shopping center before its new home is ready
Grimsby, UK, Top Town Market, Freshney Place, Cllr Philip Jackson
Grimsby: So, the Top Town Market is closing down in February. It’s all part of a big redevelopment plan for Freshney Place. They’re going to start tearing things down soon after that.
This market has been around since 1976, so it’s a bit of a landmark. But don’t worry, it’s not disappearing completely. They’ll be moving it temporarily inside the shopping center until the new spot is ready.
They’re pouring nearly £50 million into this project. It’s going to have a cinema, a food hall, and a new permanent home for the market where the old BHS used to be. Sounds exciting, right? Even Nando’s might be joining the fun!
Cllr Philip Jackson, the council leader, called this redevelopment one of the biggest projects they’ve ever tackled. Sure, there will be some bumps along the way, but he believes it’ll really change the town center for the better.
A spokesperson from the council reassured everyone that the market will still be part of Grimsby. They’re working closely with the traders to make sure the transition goes smoothly. It’s all about making the town center a better place for everyone.
They’ve already started chatting with market traders about what’s next. The plan is to help them out as they move forward. The market is expected to close in early February, and then the demolition will kick off.
Jackson mentioned that they’re on a big journey with lots of public investment. He’s optimistic about the future of the market and the new food hall. It’s all about giving the community a great place to shop and hang out.
