Salford: So, they’re planning to build some fancy homes on green belt land in Salford. The area, called East of Boothstown, is losing its green belt status. They’re looking to put up around 300 homes there.
Salford council was the first in the region to jump on the Places for Everyone plan. This scheme aims to create 28,000 homes in the borough by 2039. They just submitted a planning application for 26 homes on a piece of land that used to be Booths Bank Farm.
These new homes are aimed at the high-end market, hoping to attract skilled workers to Greater Manchester. They want to keep some of the natural beauty too, like Alder Wood and other mature trees, while also making Shaw Brook more eco-friendly.
The site is close to the RHS Garden Bridgewater, and the homes will have big gardens and a play area in the woods. They’re also planning to make it easier to get around on Leigh Road.
As part of the project, they’ll be removing a culvert to turn Shaw Brook into a nice landscaped area. However, there’s still some back-and-forth about how many affordable homes will be included.
Building on green belt land has stirred up some controversy in Worsley. Residents and local leaders have pushed back against earlier plans to develop on this land. Last year, over 1,000 people objected to a proposal for 300 homes in Worsley.
People in Boothstown have expressed concerns about how the village will handle more residents and traffic. It seems like there’s a lot to consider as these plans move forward.
