The Godfather of AI Reveals a Surprising Blindspot in Intelligence

Geoffrey Hinton, a leading figure in AI, admits to a puzzling oversight about intelligence dynamics

London: Geoffrey Hinton, often called the “godfather of AI,” recently shared a surprising view. He mentioned he struggles to find examples where less intelligent beings control more intelligent ones. The only case he could think of was the mother-baby dynamic. It’s a bit odd, right? Given his expertise, you’d expect him to see more examples.

Many thinkers argue that humans aren’t always in charge. Our actions are often influenced by non-human factors, some of which are pretty simple. Take coronaviruses, for instance. The rapid growth of AI is indeed alarming, but to tackle it, we need to recognize that we don’t control everything around us. This applies to climate change and ecological issues too.

Hinton’s claim about intelligence dynamics raises eyebrows. If we look at history, institutions like slavery and political oppression show that intelligence differences don’t matter when it comes to control. If we let AI take the reins of our lives, we might just get what we deserve.
