County Durham: The recent freezing temperatures have really thrown a wrench in the bus services around here. Go North East has said that the cold has messed with vehicle systems, especially batteries and engines.
People were left waiting for ages on Monday and Tuesday, and many had to scramble to change their travel plans. It was a real hassle for folks trying to get to school, college, or work.
The 16 Durham Diamond service, which runs through Consett, Stanley, and Durham City, saw a lot of cancellations. It was a mess.
Katrina Culyer took to social media to vent about her travel troubles. She mentioned having to take her daughter on a detour just to get where they needed to go. She said, “It’s getting past a joke with the morning buses in Durham.”
Rachel Blackburn chimed in, saying these bus issues are a regular headache. “There’s an issue every morning,” she noted. “I’m spending a fortune on Ubers and taxis, and it’s just not sustainable.”
Mary Kelly Foy, the MP for the area, has been getting a flood of messages from parents about kids being late for school because of the bus delays. She’s not happy about it.
“My inbox is full of complaints about local bus services,” she said. “I was promised improvements before Christmas, but nothing has really changed.”
She added, “It’s unacceptable that public transport fails when the weather gets rough. I’m planning to set up a forum where people can voice their concerns directly to Go North East.”
Go North East is working to get things back on track. A spokesperson apologized for the disruptions and explained that the extreme cold has affected their vehicles.
They’re doing their best to fix the issues, with teams working around the clock to get services running smoothly again. For updates, they recommend checking their website and social media.
