Gloucester Takes a Cheeky Shot at Wales After Star’s Birthday Omission
Gloucester Rugby playfully mocks Wales after Max Llewellyn’s surprising squad omission on his birthday

Llewellyn, who’s been having a stellar season with the Cherry and Whites, was a surprise omission, especially since he started every match for Wales in the autumn internationals.
Just 90 minutes after Gatland announced his squad, Gloucester shared a video of Llewellyn’s tries this season on X, formerly Twitter. They captioned it with a wink, calling him the Gallagher Premiership’s top try-scorer.
Gatland explained that Llewellyn was just unlucky this time around. He mentioned that there are plenty of quality players in the 12 position, but they’re a bit thin on options for 13.
Llewellyn, who turned 26 on the day of the announcement, has a solid background, coming up through the Cardiff Rugby academy and even playing for Wales U20s. After making a name for himself at Cardiff, he joined Gloucester in 2023. His dad, Gareth, was a Welsh rugby legend, racking up 92 caps.
