Glasgow: An 84-year-old woman celebrated her diamond wedding anniversary recently. Isabel Morrison had surgery just days before the big day.
Last year, Isabel noticed some bleeding and underwent a biopsy. It revealed she had endometrioid womb cancer. Luckily, a CT scan showed it hadn’t spread.
She was scheduled for surgery using the Da Vinci robotic system. The operation took place the day after her 83rd birthday, just before her anniversary.
Isabel had friends who had similar surgeries but without robotic assistance. They spent weeks recovering, so she was worried about her own recovery.
However, thanks to her surgeon, Kevin Burton, and the robotic system, Isabel went home the very next day. She was amazed at how quickly she recovered.
She said, “I woke up and didn’t even realize I’d had the surgery.” She had just five small marks and felt fine afterward.
Isabel had to avoid heavy lifting and vacuuming for a few weeks, but overall, she felt great. The robotic surgery is less invasive and leads to quicker recovery.
Kevin, her surgeon, expressed happiness about the successful operation. He noted that the robotic system improves outcomes for patients like Isabel.
Thanks to the surgery, Isabel avoided radiotherapy and was home in time to celebrate 60 years of marriage. She affectionately called the robotic system the “Tin Man.” She was grateful for the care she received.
