Glasgow: A nurse at a mental health hospital has been struck off. Jill McLaren, 38, had a sexual relationship with a patient. This happened while she worked at a secure clinic.

In 2023, she was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court. McLaren was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work. She also faced 18 months of supervision and a five-month curfew.

McLaren was placed on the sex offenders register for 18 months. The relationship began between July 2018 and September 2019. They often talked about fitness before flirting during her shifts.

After staff learned of the relationship, the patient’s mental health worsened. He later confessed to his lawyer and the staff about what was happening.

The Nurse and Midwifery Council (NMC) found her actions put vulnerable patients at risk. They stated her misconduct breached nursing standards and harmed the profession’s reputation.

The NMC noted that McLaren did not engage with them during the investigation. They concluded she showed no understanding of how her actions endangered patients.
