Glasgow: A security firm in Glasgow has found itself in hot water. They’ve been slapped with a hefty fine of £46,000 for using unlicensed security guards. Ouch!
SPS Doorguard Ltd was caught red-handed providing unlicensed guards to various clients. This included a site near the COP26 event in Glasgow. Not a good look!
The Glasgow Sheriff Court discovered that the company made a criminal profit of over £42,000. Now, that money will be seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Talk about a serious consequence!
On January 8, the court hit them with a £4,000 fine and a £175 victim surcharge. It’s a reminder that cutting corners in the security industry can lead to big trouble.
Nicola Bolton from the SIA emphasized the importance of having licensed personnel in the security field. She pointed out that SPS Doorguard Ltd made a profit by operating illegally, and now they’re facing the music.
She added that this court order is a step towards balancing the scales in the private security industry. It’s a clear message: crime doesn’t pay!
SPS Doorguard Ltd pleaded guilty back in July and received their sentence in January 2025. It’s a tough lesson learned for them.
