Glasgow: The city is making waves with its new returnable cup scheme. Major players like Costa Coffee, Burger King, and Caffe Nero are on board, along with local spots like Kelvingrove Museum. It’s a big deal!

This initiative, kicked off by charity Hubbub and Reposit, is all about reducing waste. If it goes well in the first three months, they plan to roll it out across Scotland and beyond.

Here’s how it works: when you grab a drink, you can opt for a Borrow Cup for a £1 deposit. Plus, many places will give you a discount or loyalty points for using it. Sounds like a win-win!

The cups come in three sizes, and you can return them for a clean one or a £1 voucher. It’s interesting to note that while most people in the UK own a reusable cup, only a fraction actually use them regularly.

According to Zero Waste Scotland, a staggering 388 million disposable cups are tossed out each year. Gavin Ellis from Hubbub is excited about this project, saying it’s a great way to tackle the waste issue.

He believes that making reusable cups easy to use will help change habits. The success of Borrow Cup really depends on how many people get involved and return their cups.

Stuart Chidley from Reposit is thrilled too, emphasizing that this is a chance for local businesses and people to switch to something more sustainable.

Even big names like Burger King are on board, looking forward to seeing how this collaboration pans out. Caffe Nero is also excited, already offering loyalty stamps for reusable cup users. They think Borrow Cup will be a hit!
