Brisbane: So, Gisele Kapterian just snagged the preselection for the Liberal seat of Bradfield, and guess what? She beat out Warren Mundine, who’s been a big name in the Voice campaign. It was a pretty solid win, too—she got 207 votes to his 171 in just one round.

There were three candidates in the running, but Michael Feneley, a well-known cardiologist, didn’t have the backing he needed. Now, Gisele’s got the tough job of keeping that seat safe from teal independent Nicolette Boele, who really made a dent in the margin last election.

Everyone’s been singing her praises, including Gladys Berejiklian and Joe Hockey. They showed up to support her at a campaign event, which is a big deal. Mundine, on the other hand, had the backing of the party’s conservative side, including Tony Abbott.

Even after losing, Mundine was gracious, congratulating Gisele and rallying for the seat. He was out there knocking on doors before the preselection, trying to get support.

Peter Dutton, the party leader, was asked about getting more women into safe seats, and he said he’s all for it. He mentioned that the party has a democratic process for choosing candidates, though. It’s interesting to see how this all plays out, especially with the push for more female representation.

Deputy Liberal Leader Sussan Ley also backed Gisele, saying she’s the right person for the job. She highlighted Gisele’s connection to the community and her potential for future leadership roles. It’s a big moment for Gisele, and it’ll be exciting to see how she handles the challenges ahead.
