Give Us a Lift! Push for Better Access at Revamped Olympia for Disabled
A petition with over 1,000 signatures urges for lifts at Kensington Olympia to ensure accessibility for all visitors to the new site

Jane Bird, a local resident, started the petition. She’s worried that without lifts, it’ll be nearly impossible for people with mobility challenges to visit the new site. Yoo Capital, the company behind the redevelopment, is on board with the idea and is keen to chat with Network Rail and Transport for London about making it happen.
The Olympia site is set to transform into a vibrant hub with bars, restaurants, and even a music arena for 4,000 people. It’s been a popular spot for events like Crufts, and the council approved the redevelopment back in 2019. They’re aiming to open the new spaces later this year, but the lack of lifts is a real sticking point.
Currently, the station is step-free, but the long walk from one side to the other is a challenge for those who struggle with mobility. Jane, who uses a mobility scooter due to her multiple sclerosis, expressed her frustration. She feels it’s a huge oversight that lifts weren’t prioritized in the planning.
Yoo Capital reassured that they want the venues to be accessible for everyone. They’re working with local authorities and rail partners to find solutions. Transport for London also acknowledged the need for better access and is ready to support the installation of lifts.
Network Rail is committed to improving accessibility and is looking for funding to make these enhancements. Everyone involved seems to agree that making the site accessible is crucial, and they’re hopeful that the lifts will become a reality soon.
