Semina, who had autism, died on June 12, 2021, after spending days in the hospital. Rachel said that Semina had confided in her about being raped by an older boy from her school. This boy had lured her into meeting him through Snapchat.
After learning about the abuse, Rachel reached out to the police. Sadly, family members who were there during the police interviews felt that the officers treated Semina like a burden. No charges were ever filed against the boy she named.
