Belfast: The Giant’s Park project is set to change a 250-acre former landfill into a vibrant adventure park. It’s expected to create over 1,000 permanent jobs, which is fantastic news for the area.
The first phase will kick off with a 160-acre adventure park, and they might start building as soon as winter 2025, pending planning approval. How exciting is that?
They’re also working on plans for mixed-use spaces and logistics hubs on the remaining 90 acres. It sounds like a big deal for the community.
Inside the adventure park, there will be a giant-themed play zone, a visitor center, a wildlife sanctuary, and even a 2.5km trail for running and cycling. Plus, an open-air amphitheater for events!
Kevin McKay, the Chief Executive of Giant’s Park Belfast Limited, and John Walsh from the Belfast City Council are really excited about this project. It’s a big public-private partnership.
Lord Mayor Micky Murray mentioned that this announcement is a huge win for Belfast. The investment and job creation are just what the city needs right now.
He also pointed out that this project will give a significant boost to tourism, which is bouncing back even stronger than before the pandemic.
The plans are ambitious and reflect the council’s goals for economic, social, and environmental growth. This site is the largest development area in the city!
With Belfast Harbour’s film studios and other developments, this investment is set to transform north Belfast.
The views of the site are stunning, and it’s exciting to think about the adventure park and nature sanctuary coming to life.
Kevin McKay also shared that for the first time in over 60 years, Belfast will have public access to its coastal area, which is a big deal!
The shoreline is home to a variety of birds and wildlife, making it a rich ecological area. They’re working hard to balance the park’s design with the need to protect this environment.
If all goes well, construction could start this winter and take about two years to finish. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
