Dallas: After all those holiday parties, your carpet probably took a hit. Spills from wine, food, and dirt can leave some pretty nasty stains.

While everyone loves the classic cleaning tricks like vinegar and baking soda, there’s a surprising hero in your liquor cabinet: vodka. Yep, that’s right! If you’ve got some leftover vodka, it could be your new best friend for cleaning.

According to the Express, vodka is being hailed as a great way to tackle those pesky carpet stains. If you’re not planning to drink it anytime soon, why not put it to good use?

Dallas Maids, a cleaning service, suggests using vodka or even rubbing alcohol for stain removal. Their tip? First, blot the stain, then pour some clear alcohol on it. They swear it’s better than any store-bought cleaner.

Experts at Shark agree and recommend keeping a spray bottle with a vodka-water mix handy for quick clean-ups. Just remember to blot first, then dab with vodka and let it dry.

For tough stains like grease or blood, they say to use straight vodka. Let it sit for a few hours before blotting it away with a microfiber cloth.

Alcohol-based cleaners are known for cutting through grease, but be careful! House Digest warns that rubbing vodka might push stains deeper into the carpet. Instead, place a vodka-soaked cloth over the stain and let it work its magic for a few minutes.

Once you’re done, just lift the cloth and let the area air dry. Easy peasy!
