Emergency services rushed to help but sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after. An inquest revealed that cocaine was in his system when he fell.
David had been sleeping in his bedroom, which had access to the roof. When officers arrived, the window was wide open, and nothing was found on the roof itself.
A woman he knew was found in the flat, under the influence of something. She mentioned taking sleeping pills and was trying to call for help.
DCI Clare Dean shared that David was discovered by this woman after being dropped off by a friend. He was found without a shirt and with his jeans down.
Initially, the driver of the van that dropped off the woman was arrested, as it was thought he might have hit David. But after reviewing CCTV, he was released.
The police confirmed that David’s injuries were not caused by a vehicle. They spoke to people who were with him that day, and no one noticed any signs of distress.
The coroner’s report showed cocaine and other substances in David’s blood. It estimated he likely had less than an hour to survive after his injury.
The coroner concluded that David’s death was accidental, stating there was no third-party involvement. His stepmother shared heartfelt memories, calling him a “funny and kind” man who struggled with his demons.
She expressed how tragic this situation is, emphasizing that David was looking forward to visiting family soon. His mother also spoke, saying he was a lovely boy who battled with drugs.
