Dublin: Over 260 drivers were caught using their phones while driving in just one day across Ireland. Can you believe that? It’s wild!
This all happened during a national day of action by the Gardai, which ran from 7 am yesterday to 7 am today. So far this year, 762 drivers have already received Fixed Penalty Notices for this same issue.
A Garda spokesperson mentioned that the average number of drivers caught using their phones last year was about 60 a day. But yesterday’s numbers show a huge jump, with over 21,500 drivers getting penalties in 2024 alone.
They pointed out that using your phone while driving is super dangerous. It distracts you and takes your focus off the road, which can lead to serious accidents.
The spokesperson added, “There’s a really simple solution – just don’t do it!”
