Birmingham: A new bakery has just opened up in the heart of the city. Gail’s, which is super popular in London, has set up its first Birmingham spot on New Street. They’ve been expanding from the south into the Midlands, with other branches popping up in places like Stratford-upon-Avon and Solihull.
The grand opening was this morning, and the place looks great! It’s got two floors and offers a variety of bread and pantry items, whether you want to eat in or grab something to go.
And let’s not forget the coffee! They’ve got fresh brews, teas, and even matcha. Price-wise, it’s pretty similar to other local spots like Medicine, with avocado toast going for £8 if you dine in.
For those curious about the menu, a sourdough loaf is priced at £4.70, while a brown sourdough loaf is a bit pricier at £5.10. They also have some unique options like challah sandwich bread and various specialty loaves, all ranging from £5.10 to £5.50.
If you’re looking for pantry items, most jams are around £5.60 a jar, and seeded crackers are £4. They also have delicious loaf cakes, like ginger and treacle or lemon drizzle, priced at £12 each.
For a quick bite, you can grab porridge, toast, or soup. Porridge is £3.70 for takeaway, and toasted sourdough or bagels start at £3. There’s something for everyone!
On the drinks side, a cup of whole leaf tea is £3.20 to go, or just 20p more if you’re staying. Matcha lattes start at £4, and coffee is from £2.90. They’ve got chai and other iced drinks too.
The bakery counter is filled with all sorts of goodies, from croissants to cookies. An almond croissant is £3.80 for takeaway or £4.50 if you want to enjoy it there. They also have some fun options like chocolate babkas and sour cherry scones, priced at £3.60 to go or £4.30 to eat in.
Gail’s is open daily from 7am to 7pm, but they close a bit earlier on Sundays at 5pm. You can find them at 42A New Street, B2 4EG. It’s definitely worth a visit!
