Swanscombe: The government has rejected a funding bid aimed at reviving the Pavilion Community Sports and Social Club. This place used to be a lively spot for locals but has been sitting empty for almost two years now.

The town council had hoped to secure cash to refurbish the Pavilion, affectionately known as “The Pav.” Unfortunately, their latest application to the Community Ownership Fund didn’t make the cut. Critics are now urging Dartford council to step in and provide the necessary funds, but there’s a lot of skepticism about the town council’s planning efforts.

Originally, the government had promised £4.4 million for a complete rebuild, but that fell through when budget concerns arose. Now, the town council is looking for £1.8 million to refurbish the existing building instead. They believe they could even turn a profit if they get it up and running again.

Local MP Jim Dickson is pushing for more support from the government and Dartford council. He’s been vocal about the need for the Pavilion to reopen, emphasizing its importance to the community. Meanwhile, some council members are pointing fingers at the town council for not providing enough detail in their proposals.

Despite the setbacks, there’s still hope. Cllr Emma Ben Moussa is determined to push for another funding application, believing that with the right information, they can finally get the support they need. The community is rallying behind the Pavilion, and everyone is eager to see it back in action.
