Newport: Great news for music lovers! Le Pub, a beloved venue in Newport, is set to thrive thanks to Music Venue Properties (MVP). They’ve just added Le Pub to their lineup, ensuring it stays a cultural hotspot.
This venue on High Street will now enjoy long-term security under MVP’s #OwnOurVenues initiative. It’s like the National Trust for grassroots music spots, launched back in 2022 with community support.
Since opening in 1992, Le Pub has been a key player in Newport’s music scene. It’s not just a bar; it’s a restaurant and nightclub too, hosting live acts from big names like Skindred. It’s truly a part of the city’s cultural fabric.
Sam Dabb, the manager, is thrilled about this new chapter. He said having a landlord who cares about live music will make a huge difference for the venue’s future.
MVP has also picked up other venues like The Snug in Manchester and The Ferret in Preston. They’ve raised nearly £2.8 million from over 1,300 investors, with extra help from the Community Ownership Fund to secure Le Pub.
Musician Sam Duckworth, known as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, shared his love for grassroots venues. He believes they reflect the community’s spirit and are vital for local culture. Le Pub is a perfect example of this, and its future is looking bright.
Mark Davyd, founder of Music Venue Trust, praised Le Pub for its commitment to the music scene. He sees this move as a significant step for live music in Wales, ensuring the venue remains a central part of Newport’s vibrant music culture.
Matthew Otridge, COO of MVP, expressed gratitude for Le Pub’s role in the Community Shares movement. He’s excited to work with the venue and its supporters to help realize its vision.
Newport City Council leader Dimitri Batrouni called this news fantastic, highlighting music’s role in the city’s life. He noted a recent resurgence in local talent, which is drawing both residents and visitors.
Councillor Emma Corten also celebrated Le Pub’s secured future, recognizing Sam Dabb’s hard work over the years. She’s thrilled that it will continue to be a part of Newport’s music scene alongside other local venues.
They’re committed to supporting culture in Newport, with plans for a Music Trail in March to showcase the city’s offerings. Exciting times ahead for Newport!
