Silian: A well-known Welsh farmer, Rhythwyn Evans, has sadly passed away at the age of 95. He was inspired by Captain Tom Moore to create his own fundraising walk. Back in 2020, to celebrate his 91st birthday, he walked around his bungalow 91 times to support his local health board, Hywel Dda.

Rhythwyn started with a goal to raise £500 but ended up bringing in over £50,000! His determination and spirit were truly remarkable. He used a walking stick but didn’t let that stop him. His walk was a heartfelt tribute, much like Captain Tom’s efforts for the NHS.

News of his passing came from a family member who shared the sad news on social media. They mentioned he died peacefully at home on January 10, surrounded by family. It was noted that he had a happy, long life and enjoyed good health until the last few months.

Many in the community have expressed their condolences online. Menter Silian, a local initiative, shared a touching post, saying it was a sad day for Silian. They remembered him as a warm, friendly face who loved to chat and had a wealth of local stories.

Rhythwyn was a familiar presence in the village, known for his strong voice leading hymns at church. His fundraising efforts, especially on his 91st birthday, will be remembered fondly. The community will surely miss his sparkle and spirit. Rest in peace, Rhythwyn Evans.
