Bransty: The community has really stepped up after that scary gas explosion. Fundraisers are super thankful for the nearly £14,000 raised to help the families affected.

Last week, two online campaigns popped up after the blast at a house on Hugh Street. It was a tough situation, especially for an elderly couple and their daughter who were hurt and are still in the hospital.

Neighbors had to leave their homes while the area is being checked for safety. Sarah Buchanan, a family member, and Matthew Stephenson, a neighbor, started the fundraisers to help out.

Matthew, who’s also been evacuated, said the people on Hugh Street are really good folks. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who donated, saying it’ll really help ease the burden for those affected.

He encouraged others to keep donating if they can, emphasizing the importance of supporting those who always lend a hand to others.

Sarah mentioned that all the money from her fundraiser will go directly to the injured family, who lost their home in the explosion. Their son even flew in from Sweden to be with them during this tough time.

In her update, Sarah thanked everyone for their kindness and support, highlighting how amazing the community is when it comes together in times of need.

Cumberland Council is also stepping in to help those impacted, and they’re holding another meeting for residents to discuss the situation.

If you want to help, you can check out Sarah and Matthew’s fundraisers online.
