Wales: Nearly £14 million will be spent to reduce waiting times for autism and ADHD assessments. This funding aims to improve support for families in need.

Demand for these services has surged due to increased awareness. Thousands are seeking assessments and support, making this funding crucial.

The £13.7 million will support the National Neurodivergence Improvement Programme over the next two years. This is in addition to previous investments totaling £15 million.

Sarah Murphy, the minister for mental health and wellbeing, announced this funding ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week. She emphasized the need for radical change in the sector.

Ms. Murphy stated that they are working with the NHS to improve long-term support for neurodivergent individuals and their families. The goal is to reduce waiting times and ensure sustainable support.

Hefin David, a Labour MS from Caerphilly, welcomed the funding. He shared that the issue is personal to him, as his daughter is autistic.

Dr. David noted that demand for these services has grown significantly. He believes this funding will help people in Wales receive the support they need more quickly.
